“Glorious moment awaits president Kufuor”- NSC boss

Accra, June 26, GNA – Prince Ernest Oduro-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council says no farewell gesture for President John Agyekum Kufuor could surpass the one planned for the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra on Tuesday.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Kpando Heart of Lions go into action on Republic Day Tuesday, July 1 for the annual Presidential Cup with Prince Oduro-Mensah believing the duel will provide a befitting farewell for the departing President.

“No group or person(s) will be able to match the level of goodbye we will bid the President on Tuesday.”

The competition initiated to honour sitting heads of state would be the last for the President whose tenure of office ends on January 2009.

This year’s event which has communication giants, MTN as the headline sponsors is also supported by Smart Energy Drink.

Launching the event at a brief ceremony on Thursday, the Chief Executive said he envisages a splendid performance that would also be incident-free.

Kotoko are the defending champions of the competition which they have won twice on the trot.

Both teams are expected to don their traditional colours for the duel that brings on stage Hip-life and music legend, Reggie Rockstone alongside the sensational Praye.
This is the first time both teams are meeting for the trophy, which organizers say would be given for keeps should Kotoko emerge victors on Tuesday.

Emmanuel Adotey, Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), organizers of the event said medals would be given to both Clubs with the winning team receiving 500 Ghana cedis in addition to the ultimate trophy.

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match, according to Mr. Adotey would be rewarded with a plaque.
