Winneba Police warn against possession of weapons during
Aboakyer
Winneba (C/R), April 26, Ghanadot/GNA-
The Winneba Police District Command has said that anybody
found with knives, cutlasses and other offensive weapons,
during the celebration of this year’s Aboakyer festival
would be arrested and prosecuted.
This forms part of security measures the police have adopted
to ensure a peaceful celebration of the festival that would
enter its climax on May 3 this year.
The highlight of the celebration is the catching of a live
deer in the forest by the two competing Asafo Companies.
The first deer catch is brought to the durbar grounds and
accepted by the Omanhene, Neenyi Ghartey VII, by stepping on
it three times.
The Winneba district Police commander, Assistant
Superintendent of Police, (ASP) Jordan Quaye gave the
warning in Press statement, issued in Winneba on Friday.
He said the police would not tolerate any acts of violence
such as street fight and warned that nobody should parade
the streets of Winneba with clubs, sticks, catapults and
canes.
Mr Quaye told the people that they should not be intimidated
by the Police presence in the town, since they were there in
the interest of the public, adding that, they should go
about their merry-making without fear.
He appealed to owners of beach resorts in an around Winneba
and owners of hostels with swimming pools to hire the
services of life guards to assist the swimmers.
The Police commander cautioned those who want to take
advantage the festival to steal and commit crime, to change
their minds, because the police would not give them the
chance.
"Any acts of violence, vandalism, vindictiveness and
lawlessness would not be tolerated and culprits not spared
by any form of intervention".
