Akufo-Addo’s wife urges women to organise for the party

Accra, April 9, Ghanadot/GNA – Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Wednesday appealed to women organizers of the party to strategize and come out with good campaign messages to enable the party to win power in December, 2008.

“I am appealing to all, especially NPP women in the Greater Accra Region, to unite and organize ourselves as best as we can, to support the party and the National Campaign Committee to strategize for the December elections,” she said.

Mrs Akufo-Addo made the appeal at a meeting with some women organizers of the party and wives of former presidential aspirants of the NPP.

She urged them to come out with schemes and operations that could help the party to win the majority of votes, especially in the Ga-Dangme dominated areas of the region.

Mrs Akufo-Addo said there had been a perception that the Ga-Dangmes were not in bed with the party and called on the women to work together to break that notion.

“We must go into the communities and encourage our young people, those who have not participated in the election process, to register and massively vote for the NPP as the party will continue to build upon the solid foundation that has been laid,” she added.

Mrs Oboshie Sai-Cofie, Minister of Information and National Orientation, said the government was working hard to make every industry in the country vibrant and called for continuous support from all Ghanaians.

Mr Jake Obsetsebi-Lamptey, National Campaign Manager of the NPP, said it was time for the women to work effectively underground to ensure grassroots participation. “This is the time for professional politics to get the best results.”

Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, MP for Weija, urged the women to show dedication and sacrifice in their grassroots campaign to win the confidence of the people.

Ms. Vida Dugbatey, Greater Women’s Organizer, called on the women to work together in unity and with one purpose.

Ms Theresa Amarley Tagoe, Deputy Minister, Greater Accra Region, urged them to nurture the party to ensure that it grew form strength to strength.
