Don’t “impose” running mate on Akufo-Addo– Activist
Accra, March 28, Ghanadot/GNA – Mr Martin
Kwaning, an activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on
Thursday appealed to members of the party not to ”impose” a
running mate on Nana Akufo-Addo, but allow him to make his
own choice.
He said: “Nana Akufo-Addo should, in consultation with the
national executives, select a person he can work with
effectively.”
Mr Kwaning, who is a former President of TESCON, the
tertiary education wing of the NPP, told the GNA in an
interview that governments around the world had collapsed
because of differences between the president and the vice
president.
He called on Nana Akufo-Addo to use the strong partnership
between President John Agyekum Kufour and Vice president
Alui Mahama as a lesson in his choice of a running mate.
Mr Kwaning said what every faithful member of the party
should do was to confidentially advice the flag bearer on
potential running mates rather than use the media to lobby
for particular individuals.
“It is very regrettable that after the national executive
had issued a release on the matter calling on members to
refrain from the act, groups of persons are still doing it.”
Mr Kwaning said this year’s election was crucial and
entreated all members to rally behind the party to win power
in the December vote.
