NPP is solid on the ground-Chairman

Amanase (ER), March 10, Ghanadot/GNA-The Ayensuano Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kofi Dartey, has said that the party was strong and solid on the ground in the area and poised to retain the seat for the third time round.

Addressing polling station executives of Amanase zone at Amanase on Sunday, Mr Dartey said the constituency, which was part of the Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District was hitherto a deprived one.

He noted that with the intervention of the Member of Parliament, Mr Godfried Okyere, and the District Chief Executive, Mr. Michael Kofi Mensah, the area now have some developmental projects.

These, he said included rehabilitation of dilapidated school blocks, construction
of new ones, construction of feeder roads to facilitate transportation of food stuffs to marketing centres, provision of boreholes and the extension of electricity to some communities.

Mr. Dartey said those achievements pointed to the fact that the area was now having its fair share of the national cake.

He debunked claims from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), that the party had lost support in the constituency and for that matter would loose the seat this time round in the forth-coming general elections.

Mr Dartey said there was no way the NPP would loose the seat to any political party after occupying it since 2000.

The NDC won the Ayensuano seat in 1992 and retained it in 1996 and later lost it to the New Patriotic Party in 2000.

On the opening of nomination for parliamentary primaries, Mr Dartey said apart from the incumbent MP who had declared his intention to seek re-election, no party member had up till now declared an intention to contest the seat.

He gave the assurance that the constituency executive would not put impediments in the way of any qualified person who decides to contest, saying the NPP is a democratic party.

The constituency chairman appealed to polling station executive to intensify their campaigns towards the general election so that the party would hand over power to itself come next year January.

Mr Dartey cautioned them against complacency and said the party would soon provide all the necessary logistics for the campaign.
