ECG to stick to prepaid meters - Director
Cape Coast, March 3, Ghanadot/GNA –
Alhaji Daudi Alhassan Jangu, Central Regional Director of
Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on Monday said his outfit
will not reverse to the use of credit meters in Cape Coast.
Alhaji Jangu told the GNA in an interview in Cape Coast that
the introduction of prepaid meters was a government
initiative to help clear losses that the ECG had been making
as a result of customers’ indebtedness and also help the
consumer save money though efficient management of
electricity.
He said his outfit would not go back to the use of the old
credit meters despite complaints by customers in Cape Coast
that prepaid meters “run faster”.
Alhaji Jangu said the prepaid system was not a new
phenomenon in the country and that it was in the best
interest of the public.
Mr Eric Asante, Central Regional Public Relations Officer of
ECG, said with effect from Wednesday, March 4, ECG would
begin a regional public education, through meetings,
workshops and door to door interaction on the benefits of
prepaid meters.
Mr Asante advised the public to use electricity reasonably
so as to save energy.
