Current heat wave is normal - Meteo
Accra, March 1, Ghanadot/GNA - The Meteorological Services
Agency at the Kotoka International Airport, says the current
high temperature being experienced in the southern part of
the country is normal.
Mr Amos Narh, senior meteorologist at the department, told
journalists that the minimum temperature at night could be
severer in the months of March and April, prior to the
expected rainy season.
Giving reasons for the high temperatures, Mr. Narh said
during the day, the sea and other water bodies stored heat
which was in turn released into the atmosphere at night,
giving rise to high temperatures.
Mr Narh gave the following as the average night temperatures
for certain areas along the coast: Accra, 27 to 28 degrees
Celsius and Takoradi, 23 to 24 degrees Celsius.
For the middle belt, the temperature for Ho is 36 degrees
Celsius during the day with a relatively mild temperature at
night.
He said pockets of rain being experienced in the Akuapem
range, Berekum, Kpando and Oda were not a sign of the rainy
season but a result of their geographic location.
Mr. Narh said minimum temperature in the Northern Region
during the day was between 38 and 48 degrees Celsius, adding
that the weather was however much cooler at night.
He advised people, especially children to take in enough
water to prevent dehydration.
