Dr Mahama urges Ghanaians to pray for peaceful elections

Accra, Aug. 12, Ghanadot/GNA – Dr Edward Mahama, the Peoples National Convention (PNC) Presidential Candidate, has emphasized the need for Ghanaians everywhere in the world to pray for peaceful elections this year to ensure continued stability of the economy.

He said peace is an essential ingredient to ensure stability and development, which would serve as a base to attract foreign investors and tourists to the country.

Dr Mahama, who is currently in a tour in the United States of America to share his party’s vision with Ghanaians abroad, made the call in statement to the Ghana News Agency when he visited the United Presbyterian Church in Chicago.

Briefing the congregation developments in Ghana, he shared an experience where some American tourists, who visited Ghana, said they chose the country as their tourism destination because of the relative peace and stability.

“I have personally contributed to the peace in Ghana by being the first to concede defeat anytime elections results where declared by the Electoral Commission (EC),” Dr Mahama said and added that he was sure of victory in the December 7, election.

“My invitation to Ghanaians abroad is to prepare to come home to take advantage of the duty free and tax holiday policies the PNC Administration will extend to Ghanaians, who by the time of my Swearing-in on January 7, 2009 as the President of Ghana, would have been living abroad continuously for six months.”

Commenting on the voters’ registration exercise, Dr Mahama commended the EC for extending the deadline for registration since no Ghanaian of voting age should be denied the opportunity.

“All persons qualified by law are to register and be given the opportunity to vote including proxy voting,” Dr Mahama stressed.
