Big turnout on last day of
registration exercise in Tamale
Tamale, Aug 12, Ghanadot/GNA- The
two-day extension of the limited voters’ registration
exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC) has recorded an
impressive turnout in the Tamale Metropolis but with limited
incidents
of shortages of registration forms at some centres.
The Zagyuri Anglican Nursery, which is the centre for the
Kamina
Barracks, Kanvilli and Zagyuri, Primary and Junior High
School experienced a relative peaceful registration with 95
people having registered on Monday.
However, when the GNA visited the centre on Tuesday morning,
as at
10: 35am the registration officials were absent due to a
downpour in the Metropolis which started last night and
entered into the early hours of Tuesday.
There were only four people present at the centre to
register with a security officer at post.
At the Gumbihini South registration centre at the
Presbyterian Church
of Ghana at Sakassaka 142 people had also registered as at
Monday but because of the rains this morning only six people
had registered as at 11:00 am.
The registration officer said they had ran out of the
official registration forms and were using supplementary
sheets for the process. He said he believed the
supplementary sheets would be enough for the day’s job,
adding that, the people would be given chits to come later
for their pictures and their registration cards.
He said the EC would announce a date for the people to come
for their cards.
The Vittin/Kotingli registration centre, after registering
110 people on Monday had to close the exercise due to
shortage of registration forms.
According to the registration officer the centre was on
Tuesday given an additional 100 forms which enabled 14
people to register as at the time the GNA was leaving the
place.
Meanwhile at the Education Ridge/Sanarigu registration
centre, 28 people had registered as at midday and there were
no reports of violence or shortage of materials.
