No decision on primaries yet -
Odododiodoo NDC Executives
Accra, July 11, GNA - No decision has been taken on the
freezing of primaries by the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
in the Odododiodoo Constituency for the 2008 elections for
anyone to be imposed to contest, the Executives have said.
In a statement in Accra, signed by Mr. Daniel Nii Okai,
Chairman and Mr. Samuel Armah, Secretary on Wednesday, the
Executives explained that the decision to hold parliamentary
primaries in any constituency was the prerogative of the
National Executive Committee (NEC).
They stated, however, that even though they were aware that
the NEC was preparing to hold primaries in "Orphaned"
constituencies where the party lost in the last general
elections by August this year, those with sitting NDC
Members of Parliament would follow somewhere in August next
year.
The statement was in reaction to a newspaper publication
headed "Uneasy calm at Odododiodoo - NDC warns Vanderpuye"
in which one Abbey Commey, was reported to have led a group
from five unnamed branches with the excerption of Asere
alleging that the MP had been imposed to contest the 2008
election.
The Executives disassociated themselves from the publication
they described as "misleading and the figment of some
faceless individuals' imagination and part of a Well
marshaled attempt to divide the hard won reputation and
loyalty of the constituents for this great party".
The Executives expressed their satisfaction with the
performance of the MP, Mr. Jonathan Nii Tackie Komme, since
he won a bye-election to Parliament about two years ago,
saying, "he has so far performed creditably well to the
admiration of the Executives and majority of the people in
the constituency".
They stated that members of the party who were not abreast
with what they called "the MP's success story" were those
who did not take active interest in NDC activities and were
not "newspaper and media friendly".
The statement advised members to desist from acts that could
divide the ranks of the party and to respect the
constitution, procedures and structures of the party to
position the NDC to win the 2008 elections.
