Indian firms to set up jute mill
factories in Kumasi
Accra, July 09, Ghanadot/GNA– Two Indian companies are to
establish jute mill factories in Kumasi by September next
year, Mr. Isaac Osei, Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa
Board announced on Monday.
This would enable Cocobod to reduce substantially the
importation of jute sacks for bagging cocoa for exports.
The two companies were named as Al Chandani and Ghandi Jute
Limited.
Currently the country imports between jute sacks for the
cocoa industry.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, Mr Osei said
research had shown that areas such as Ashanti Mampong,
Techiman and Nkoranza in the middle zone of the country were
fertile for growing jute in large quantities.
He said the two companies expressed the interest at a recent
visit to India where officials of the Cocobod were taken
through the processing and procedures for producing the jute
sacks.
He said the proposals for the two companies would be
assessed by the end of this month.
