Developers appeal to IGP to help stem
harassment by landguards
Accra, July 8, GNA - A number of developers at Agyiringanor,
near East Legon in Accra have appealed to the Inspector
General of Police (IGP) and the National Security to help
stem the harassment and brutalities against genuine land
owners by a group of armed landguards operating in the
TRASACO Estates area.
Mr Victor Ackuaku, a developer told the Ghana News Agency on
Saturday that the activities of the armed landguards, often
dressed in military fatigue, had deprived a number of
developers of their genuinely acquired plots of land as they
attacked and brutalised construction workers scaring them
away to enable them to take possession on the land,
apparently to re-sell it to other buyers.
He said one Mohammed also called "Sobibor" and Korley, who
often patrolled the area in a black cross country vehicle
with registration number GR 808 X had recruited the
landguards some of who were identified only as Kpani, Boye,
Akuffo, Okoe, Zion and Francis Botchway.
Mr Ackuaku said investigations by some developers affected
by the activities of the landguards revealed that most of
them were based at a beach spot called Salenco at James Town
in Accra.
