Regulate proliferation of information
centres - Assemblyman
Mampong, (Ash), July 7, GNA - Mr Kwasi Ansah Darkwa, a
member of the Sekyere West District Assembly, has appealed
to the Minister of Communications and the National
Communications Authority to take the necessary steps to
regulate the proliferation of information centres in the
country.
Mr Darkwa, who is also a farmer at Assam in the District,
made the appeal on Thursday, at Mampong after the Sekyere
West District Assembly had deliberated on "Public Address
System" in some communities in the District.
He said even though these information centres were
established by their owners purposely for community and
social announcements, some of these centres had turned into
"mini FM stations" and were being used for political,
chieftaincy and religious discussions, casting insinuations,
personal attacks and causing nuisance.
Mr Darkwa reiterated that if nothing was done to check how
these centres were springing up and regulates their
operations, it might one day lead to an uncontrollable
situation in some communities.
Earlier during the meeting, the Justice and Security
Sub-Committee of the Assembly had urged the Assembly to stem
the nuisance being created by some of these "mini FM
stations" in the District.
