Government reconstructs Abrem-Agona-Essiam-Effutu feeder road

Abrem-Agona(C/R), July 05, Ghanadot/GNA - Nana Ato Arthur, Central Regional Minister on Thursday cut the sod for work to commence on the reconstruction of the 15.2 kilometre Abrem-Agona-Essiam-Effutu feeder road estimated at about 1.81 billion Ghana cedis (18.1 billion cedis).

Contract on the reconstruction of the road awarded about a month ago is expected to be completed within 24 months.

Nana Arthur expressed Government's determination to enhance the socio-economic development of the people.

He said reconstruction of two other feeder roads, from Komenda junction to the town estimated at about 654 million Ghana cedis (6.54 billion cedis) and from Esaaman junction to Ankwaanda, estimated at about 55 million Ghana cedis (5.5 billion cedis) have also been awarded on contract and work on them would begin soon.

Nana Arthur said efforts were being made to improve infrastructure in second cycle institutions in the area, and appealed to the people to support Government and refrain from land litigation to facilitate more development.

He urged the youth employed by the contractor working on the project, to be hardworking and refrain from pilfering at the project site.

Nana Agyeman Kyirewia Kordie, Omanhene of Abrem Traditional Area, expressed appreciation for the reconstruction of the road and commended Government for its development projects.

He noted that the deplorable nature of the road made it difficult to transport foodstuffs to marketing centres and urged the supervisors on the project and Central Regional Directorate of Feeder roads to ensure the project was executed efficiently, effectively and on schedule.

Mr Theophilus Biney, Acting Managing Director of Eagle Star Construction firm, based in Accra, the contractor appealed for support from the chiefs and people to ensure its early completion.

He said so far about 20 youths in the area had been engaged to work on the project and the number would be increased to 50.
