Educationist abhors attacks on
teachers
Bonsu (B/A) July 05, GNA - The Reverend Kumi Asuamah Yeboah,
Nkoranza Assistant Director of Education in-charge of budget
and finance has denounced the practice by some parents to
storm schools to attack or insult teachers for punishing
their children.
He noted that the practice had largely contributed to the
level of indiscipline among the school children, as the
parents behaved in this way in the full glare of the
children.
Speaking at a parent-teacher association meeting of the
Roman Catholic Junior Secondary School at Bonsu in the
district, the educationist stressed that the success of
education hinged on a cordial working relationship between
teachers and parents.
Rev. Yeboah urged parents to do away with the practice and
rather support and encourage teachers to teach their
children wholeheartedly and advised them to monitor the
movements of their children to steer them away from social
vices.
Mr. John Kofi Amoah, district education examination officer,
advised the pupils to choose programmes they could do well
in and not to follow others to gamble with programmes they
would find difficult in pursuing at the Senior Secondary
School.
He called on parents to collaborate with teachers in guiding
the children to choose programmes and schools suitable for
them as they prepared entry forms towards the Basic
Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Mr. Fei Sakyi, headmaster of the school said absenteeism as
well as apathy on the part of the students towards their
studies were major challenges facing the school.
Mr. Kwabena Effah-Musah, PTA Chairman, appealed to the
parents to pay regular visits to the school to interact with
the school authorities to get acquainted with the
performance of their children.
