Drivers told to help maintain lead in
transport business
Ho, July 4, GNA - Mr Stephen Okudjeto, the General Secretary
of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has
appealed to drivers in the union to win more passengers for
the union to maintain the lead in the transport business.
He said the union was no longer enjoying monopoly with the
inception of other transport unions including the Metro Mass
Transport and that their lackadaisical attitude to
passengers would not be in their best interest.
The General Secretary said this at the presentation of the
audited accounts for the financial year that ended on 31
December 2006.
Mr Okudjeto advised members to regularly check their
appearance and that of their vehicles to appeal to
passengers.
"In this time of competition, it will only be in our best
interest to dress well in our green khaki to look smart on
the road to appeal to our passengers", he said.
On the Union's financial situation, he expressed
disappointment about the non-payment of dues among members
and urged them to pay their dues promptly to enhance the
development of the union.
Mr Okudjeto called on the branches to venture into other
economic enterprises to be able to implement their
development agenda without depending on dues from members.
On the audited report, Osei-Owusu Achaw, a Senior Auditor at
the Regional Audit Office, said the union had kept
expenditure under control with only the union's new building
registering a total of 201,263,000.00 against the budgeted
figure of 60,000,000.00.
