Juvenile ex-convict to take advantage
of capitation grant
Ho, July 4, GNA - A 15-year-old female ex-convict who gained
her freedom following the intervention of the Parliamentary
Judiciary Committee in Ho last Sunday said she would take
advantage of the capitation grant and go back to school.
The former Junior Secondary School Two pupil told the Ghana
News Agency in an interview at the Ho Central Prisons on
Tuesday that her only fear was whether her guardians would
be ready to accept her back into their care.
The juvenile said she missed school and described her stay
in prison as unfortunate.
She said she was not disappointed but learnt lessons from
the circumstances that led to her imprisonment and was
determined to further her education to the highest level.
Narrating her story, she said she was arrested for using a
stolen mobile phone that she borrowed from her boyfriend.
She said she and her boyfriend were fined one million cedis
each by the court and her boyfriend paid but she could not
pay so she was sent to jail.
She expressed her appreciation to the Parliamentary
Judiciary Committee for coming to her rescue by buying her
freedom from prison when it paid the one million cedis fine.
She said she had served one year out of the two-year jail
term and that she had now discovered herself and would live
a worthy life to be able to achieve her ambition in life.
