AMA to embark on massive decongestion
exercise on July 9
Accra, June 29, GNA - The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA)
on Friday said it would on July 9 embark a massive
decongestion exercise dubbed: "Operation Nimrod."
The exercise would include the demolition of unauthorised
kiosks and metal containers as well as clearing some
recalcitrant hawkers who have returned to the pavements and
other walkways.
Mr. John Appiah, Public Relations Officer of AMA, told GNA
in Accra on Friday that the assembly would also address the
issue of sachet water producers, the plastic waste menace
and their contribution to flooding in the city.
Mr Appiah said the Assembly was alarmed by developers at La
and Teshie who were reclaiming portions of the Kpeshie
Lagoon for building purposes.
He said all those developments would be demolished and
developers surcharged with the cost, adding that those who
dumped waste in the Lagoon would be made to desilt it at
their own cost.
The Assembly appealed to residents for their support since
what was being done was for the good of the city.
