Minister urges more support for human resource development

Cape Coast, June 11, Ghanadot/GNA –Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd), Minister of Health, on Tuesday appealed to Ghanaians to complement government’s efforts at developing the country’s human resource and discard the notion that such investment would be a waste of money.

He cited that the sponsoring of the education of students would enable them to acquire higher education, skills and expertise towards the acceleration of development.

Maj. Quashigah made the call when he visited students taking part in a maiden ‘Ghana National Exchange Programme’ at the Mfantsipim and Saint Augustine Senior High Schools in the Cape Coast Metropolis and Aggrey Memorial school, in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District.

In all, 259 students from 19 schools from five regions were taking part in the month-long programme, which took off in May.

This was to enable the participants to exchange ideas and learn more about their various areas of study.

Maj. Quashigah, who is vice patron for the programme, said exchange programmes were essential for the development of every nation, since it would assist participants to acquire the requisite skills to meet global challenges.

Ms Rosemond Blay, the Central Regional Director of Education, asked the participants to take the programme seriously so that they could excel in their various fields, and to refrain from “picking up bad habits.”

Mr Komla Asamani the Country Director of the Country Awards Council of Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), organizers of the programme, said it was aimed at giving students the opportunity to among others, to acquire more knowledge and establish links with colleagues.

He students would be awarded certificates at the end of the programme and subsequent events would be organized if the maiden one became successful.
