Minister urges more support for
human resource development
Cape Coast, June 11, Ghanadot/GNA –Major
Courage Quashigah (Rtd), Minister of Health, on Tuesday
appealed to Ghanaians to complement government’s efforts at
developing the country’s human resource and discard the
notion that such investment would be a waste of money.
He cited that the sponsoring of the education of students
would enable them to acquire higher education, skills and
expertise towards the acceleration of development.
Maj. Quashigah made the call when he visited students taking
part in a maiden ‘Ghana National Exchange Programme’ at the
Mfantsipim and Saint Augustine Senior High Schools in the
Cape Coast Metropolis and Aggrey Memorial school, in the
Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District.
In all, 259 students from 19 schools from five regions were
taking part in the month-long programme, which took off in
May.
This was to enable the participants to exchange ideas and
learn more about their various areas of study.
Maj. Quashigah, who is vice patron for the programme, said
exchange programmes were essential for the development of
every nation, since it would assist participants to acquire
the requisite skills to meet global challenges.
Ms Rosemond Blay, the Central Regional Director of
Education, asked the participants to take the programme
seriously so that they could excel in their various fields,
and to refrain from “picking up bad habits.”
Mr Komla Asamani the Country Director of the Country Awards
Council of Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO),
organizers of the programme, said it was aimed at giving
students the opportunity to among others, to acquire more
knowledge and establish links with colleagues.
He students would be awarded certificates at the end of the
programme and subsequent events would be organized if the
maiden one became successful.
