Obuasi, June 9, Ghanadot/GNA– The Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Beatrice Boakye Ansah Prempeh, has called on parents and other stakeholders in education, to help school authorities to maintain discipline at all times.

According to her, that was the only way stakeholders could get academic work to go on smoothly in schools.

Mrs Prempeh said now that schools have been made community-based, with private sector participation in education, it was her wish that “all and sundry, particularly parents would play a more meaningful role, to help facilitate work in the various schools, including Senior High School in the Obuasi Municipality”.

Speaking at the first open day and third graduation of the Independence M/A Complex Schools at Obuasi on the theme “Investment In Education is Worthwhile”, the Municipal Director emphasised that there was no doubt that education was the best investment and legacy that any generation could bequeath to its young ones”.

Mrs Prempeh announced that the introduction of the Capitation Grant had helped to raise school population from 23,389 in 2004 to 29,401 as at 30th April, this year.
She reminded the grandaunts that, in whatever they did, “they should remember that the fear of the Lord was the beginning of wisdom.”

Mr Jonathan Tetteh, the Headmaster of Independence M/A Junior High School (JHS) “A”, in his report, said the primary section of the schools came first on three consecutive occasions in the monitoring test, whilst the JHS section had been recording hundred per cent in Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The headmaster said the schools had continuously produced stars to the Obuasi Municipal team in the areas of football, volleyball, netball, table tennis and athletics.

Ms Grace Sarpomaah Amoako, the Headmistress of KHS “B” and chairman of the Education sub-committee of the municipal assembly, called on stakeholders to support the schools to address some of its challenges, which include the construction of additional classrooms.
