Include
tree planting in school curriculum-DCE
Kpetoe, June 05, Ghanadot/GNA - Mr Mawuli Kwame Dabi,
Adaklu-Anyigbe District Chief Executive, on Thursday called
for the inclusion of tree plating into the syllabus of basic
schools to inculcate the habit of tree planting in pupils.
He said this would reduce indiscriminate felling of trees
and help in protecting the environment.
Mr Dabi said this at the celebration of Volta Regional
Environment Day at Kpetoe.
Mr Dabi said the environment played an indispensable role in
the sustenance of society and called for collective
responsibility to ensure that environmental degradation was
minimised.
He said the ever-increasing use of Chlorofluorocarbon was
threatening the existence of mankind and underscored the
need for conscious and deliberate reduction in the use
harmful gasses.
He urged the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to
enforce laws on the environment and step up programmes to
become more proactive in safeguarding the environment.
Togbe Akliku Ahorney II, Acting Volta Regional Director of
the EPA, said Kpetoe was chosen to host the regional
celebration because of the occupation of people in the
district, which is selling of firewood and burning of
charcoal.
During an open forum, some of the participants called on
government to reduce the cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas
(LPG) to encourage more people to switch off from using
firewood to LPG.
