Gold Fields denies organising bonanza

Accra, April 12, GNA - Gold Fields Ghana, one of the leading mining companies in Ghana, on Thursday denied that it was running a bonanza either by itself or in collaboration with any other company.

It said in a statement signed by Mr. Toni Aubynn, Head, Corporate Affairs and Social Development, that it had also not contracted any person, persons or agent(s) to undertake any such activity on its behalf.

"The Company is hereby advising the general public to take note and be wary of such or similar messages," the statement said.

"Gold Fields Ghana, the operators of the Tarkwa and Damang Gold Mines and the Headline Sponsors of the Black Stars, believes this is a hoax and shall not take responsibility now or in the future for losses or costs that may be suffered in relation to this so called bonanza," it added.

It noted that in August last year, some text messages were being circulated, claiming that Gold Fields Ghana was running a "bonanza" for which recipients were told to have won an amount of money.

The so-called winners were requested to send their personal information to some given cell phone numbers.

It said in December last year the Company issued another media release advising the public against such unscrupulous individuals/groups who have adopted such schemes in order to deceive the public and extort money from them.

Now, it said, such text messages were being circulated once more and warned the public to be on their guard.
