CPP guru urges Ghanaians to be
self-confident
Accra, March 17 GNA - Dr Kwaku Osafo, an International
Development Economist and member of the Convention People's
Party (CPP) on Saturday called on Ghanaians to regain their
self-confidence and the "can do attitude" in order to move
the nation forward.
He said no group of people have been able to develop their
nation when they have lost their self- confidence and
depended on donors to advance.
Dr Osafo was speaking a forum organized by the Tertiary
Students Charter TESCHART) of the CPP of the University of
Ghana at Legon.
The forum, which attracted CPP activists of the university,
was on the theme: "After 50 years of economic opportunities,
drawbacks and lessons, what are the actual economic policies
needed for Ghana?".
He said even though Ghana would need few assistance from
outside from time to time, it was about time our governments
shifted gradually to develop their own industries to provide
employment for the teaming masses.
He called on Ghanaians to start thinking as a people and
come out with creative ideas on how to help the nation
develop.
He said the dependency attitude of Ghanaians for foreign
assistance was increasing by the day and does not augur well
for the future well-being of the nation.
Mr Robert Wood, Chairman of the CPP Economic Committee said
the strategy that Nkrumah used in the 1960's for the
country's development was what the Chinese used and have now
taken the world by storm.
He called for concerted effort by the government to put in
place measures to solve the current energy problems.
Dr Edmond Delle, Chairman of the CPP urged the youth to
sacrifice their energy and time for the rejuvenation of the
CPP at the grassroots level.
"The CPP believes in self-sacrifice and this is what some of
you are lacking to help revive the party," he added.
Dr. Delle also noted that the greatest legacy Dr Kwame
Nkrumah left for the word was his works and this is there
for everybody to see.
