Ghanaians urged to support
efforts at providing quality education
Sunyani, March 15, GNA- Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Brong
Ahafo Regional Minister, on Thursday urged all well meaning
Ghanaians and philanthropists to channel their resources in
support of government efforts to ensure quality education in
the country.
He made the call at the commissioning of a 300 million cedi
block of three classrooms donated by Sam Bennett Group
Company Limited to the Ridge Experimental 'A' Primary and
Junior Secondary School (JSS) in Sunyani.
Mr Baffour-Awuah said government alone could not afford to
provide the entire infrastructure, learning and teaching
materials, but needed a push by the public to fulfil it
promise of providing quality education to the people.
He said with the introduction of capitation grant and other
educational polices by government, enrolment in various
schools had increased and had put a lot of pressure on the
available facilities.
The Minister said it behoved all to assist in creating an
enabling environment for children to enjoy better
educational facilities.
He said the children who were the nation's future leaders
needed to acquire knowledge, which could equip them to face
the challenges ahead and urged students to study hard to
justify the huge investment in education as well as becoming
good assets, which could provide better services for the
nation.
Mr Baffour-Awuah advised parents to control their children
from spending much of their time watching television, but
rather encourage them to always be with their books.
He urged teachers to put up their best in maintaining and
even raise the standard of the school to become one of the
best in the Region.
Mrs Rosemary Annor-Sakyi, Headmistress, said the school
established in 1960 about 47 years ago had raised a lot of
prominent persons.
She expressed regret that the classroom blocks were fast
deteriorating because they has not seen any major
rehabilitation and appealed to old students to come to the
aid of the school.
She expressed the school's appreciation to the Sam Bennett
Group Company and urged other philanthropist to follow suit.
