Police arrest two scrap dealers
for stealing underground cables
Tema, March 7, Ghanadot/GNA - Two scrap dealers and another
person have been arrested by Ashaiman police for stealing
underground cable being laid by All Alfa Electric Company (AAEC)
in the Accra Tema metropolis.
They are Mawuya Ibrahim, 52, Francis Mensah, 35 both scrap
dealers and Zackaria Abdulai 42 have been placed in custody
to assist the police in their investigations.
A statement issued by the Tema Deputy Regional Police
Commander, ACP Ransford Moses Ninson said, acting on a
tip-off the police moved into action and arrested Abdulai in
his hide-out at Ashaiman and found on him a full sack of
naked cables with the black insulator bearing the
inscription of the AAEC.
Upon interrogation Abdulai mentioned Ibrahim as his source
of supply who in turn named Mensah.
He said the report from the supervising engineer of the
company indicated that all 127 metal poles for the laying of
the cable by AAEC were tampered with.
ACP Ninson expressed disgust about the unpatriotic behaviour
of some citizens and warned that no one would be spared when
caught but prayed that the court would imposed severe
punishment to serve as deterrent to others.
In another development, the police have arrested one Edward
Ocansey, 38 alleged to be a facilitator of prostitution and
seven women between 20 and 40 years at Tema Community "8".
Another 23 men between 18 and 50 years were also rounded up
for peddling in hard drugs.
