ROAD DEDICATED TO OBASANJO

Accra, March 7, 2007, Ghanadot - The Government has named a
two-and-a-half kilometre road located in Accra to President
Olusengu Obasanjo of Nigeria as a gesture of cementing the
bond of friendship between Ghana and Nigeria.
The dedication or naming of the road is one of numerous that
litter some of Accra’s middle-class to upper class
neighbourhoods.
The road stretches from the 37th Military Hospital
Roundabout through to Dimples Junction on the Achimota-Abeka
Lapaz Highway. The dedication was in recognition of
President Obasanjo's immense contribution to Ghana.
Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and President Obasanjo
jointly unveiled the plaque, which read: "His Excellency
Olusengu Obasanjo Road. A True Friend and Brother. Ghana is
proud of you."
The Mayor of Accra Mr Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, Mayor of
Accra, read a citation to President Obasanjo.
The citation read: "The City of Accra, Ghana, has followed
with keen interest and admiration the overwhelming support
you offered to President John Agyekum Kufuor and his
Government when the NPP took over the administration of this
beloved country.
"The Olusengu Obasanjo Road is dedicated to you as a true
brother on this special occasion of Ghana's 50th
Independence Anniversary Celebration.
"The City of Accra wishes you good health and long life
during your remaining tenure in office as President and your
retirement."
Commenting on the gesture, President Obasanjo described the
gesture as most unique.
President Obasanjo praised Ghana for the immense role she
has been playing within the African Union saying there was a
regeneration of what happened on the nation's independence
in 1957.
