Ghanaians urged to organize periodic
environmental clean-up campaigns
Ajumako (C/R), March 2, GNA-The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam
district co-ordinating Director, Mr. Mathew K. Quason on
Wednesday appealed to Ghanaians to organize periodic
clean-up exercises to tidy their surroundings to avoid
outbreak of diseases.
He said most of the sicknesses that people were spending
huge sums of money and time curing could have been prevented
if they have undertaken some environmental cleanliness.
Mr. Quason made the appeal when addressing a large number of
people at Ajumako after undertaking a five-hour clean-up
exercise in the town as part of preparation towards the
celebration of the Ghana's fiftieth Anniversary.
They swept the streets, desilted gutters and weeded
overgrown areas of the town.
He urged Ghanaians not to wait until there is an occasion
before they undertake clean-up exercises but should make
environmental cleanliness a habit.
Mr. Quason said to ensure environmental cleanliness, the
Assembly has put in place measures to vigorously check and
deal drastically with anybody who would flout sanitation
by-laws.
It is when the people are in good condition that they would
be able to work harder to increase productivity to improve
the economy, he said.
He in this regard, he said the Assembly has fixed the first
Friday of every month for clean-up exercises for the various
departments and Institutions and hoped to extend the
exercise to all the communities in the district.

in all the activities earmarked for the celebration to make
it grand and successfull.
