Woman produces forged
documents by husband for visa, gets
caught
Accra, Feb.5, Ghanadot/GNA – An Accra Circuit
court on Thursday fined a
42-year-old trader who presented
forged document to the British High
Commission a sum of GH˘ 500.
In addition, Georgina Annan Baidoo
was bonded to be of good behaviour
or in default face six months prison
sentence.
Baidoo pleaded guilty to the offence
and asked the court to deal
leniently with her.
The facts of the case
as presented by Deputy
Superintendent of Police (DSP) Paul
Kofi Frimpong are that on July 22,
2008, Baidoo presented her visa
application to the British High
Commission, including a Money
Transfer Encashment Receipt number
13111754 purportedly issued by the
Merchant Bank.
Baidoo was then
handed over to the police. Upon
interrogations, she admitted the
offence and mentioned her husband,
now domiciled in the UK, as the
source of the forged receipt.
According to DSP
Frimpong, when the cash encashment
receipt was crossed- checked, it was
found to be forged.
Handling down the sentence, the
court, presided over by D.E.K
Darketey said Baidoo’s actions had
tarnished the image of the country
and that she would be jailed the
next time..
