NPP MP
Threatens to Resign
Abdul Salam Sule
Accra, Jan 30, Ghanadot - Hon Maxwell Kofi Dwumah, the New
Patriotic Party, (NPP) Member of Parliament, (MP) for the
Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti Region has threatened to
quit his position as a Member of Parliament.
According the MP for Asokwa, the New Patriotic Party (NPP)
stands the chance of loosing him as a member of parliament
if the party's national executives failed to address his
concerns.
Speaking to the Media yesterday in Accra, Hon Kofi Dwumah
explained that, before the December 8th general elections in
the year 2008, some constituency executives of the Asokwa
constituency were sacked from the party and their crime he
said was that, the constituency executives were spotted on
many occasions campaigning for the NDC parliamentary
candidate in the same constituency.
"But the law of the New Patriotic Party frowns on the
actions of those executives and a vote of no confidence was
passed on them", he explained.
But Hon Kofi Dwumah said, almost 4 months after the vote of
no confidence, the sacked party executives are still keeping
their post in the constituency and it does not speak well of
the New Patriotic Party which proclaimed to believe in
democracy and rule of law.
He further said that, the sacked executives were creating
problems in the constituency which could in future affect
the party negatively.
"In order not to be part of that political disgrace, I
will resign as a Member of Parliament for the Asokwa
constituency to save my image and reputation if the party
fails to address the issue now", he threatened.
Meanwhile, source close to the National Chairman of the NPP,
Mr. Pater Mac Manu has hinted to Ghanadot that, the Ashanti
Regional chairman of the party had been asked to as a matter
of urgency find a lasting solution to the problem at the Asokwa constituency.
The source also confirmed that, the national executives of
the party had prevailed upon Hon Maxwell Kofi Dwumah to drop
any plans of resigning as a member of parliament on the
ticket of the NPP.
