Demands on Prez Mills are not Misplaced - Haruna Iddrisu
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot
Accra, Jan 23, Ghanadot - The National
Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for
Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu has stated that the demands
made on President John Evans Atta Mills by Ghanaians are not
either misplaced or out of place, he said rather its
reflects a certain perception of confidence and expectations
that the Ghanaian electorate legitimately and genuinely
expects from his government.
Haruna Iddrisu hinted that president Mills is a man of
honour and a man of trust, and that to the extent that the
public person will allow him, he would do his best within
his capacity to deal with the numerous problems confronting
the country at the moment. According to him, though the
president may not be able to deal with all the probelms of
the country, he will do his best when Ghanaians give him
time to do so.
"President Mills needs time and I have heard people calling
him to keep his 100 days promise. You know apart from the
fact that we have gone through a diificult transition
process, no budget have been drown yet".
The MP for Temale South maintained that Ghanaians should
begin to measure whether President Mills is committed to his
campaign promise or not when his economic policy statement
is presented to the Parliament of Ghana.
"You can check from his menifestor promise on Agriculture
and see whether he is investing in agriculture or not, it is
infrastructure or construction of roads, any government will
lay the kind of huge money that is required to creat the
road network".
He was optimistic that when president Mills first budget
statement is read, his commitment, region by region,
district by district and community by community would be
stired up to help him deliver to the people what he promised
them during his campaign.
"If you take education, when the budget is there, you can
begin to measure how much could go into research, hoe much
will be used in the expansion of the tertiary education, but
if within this period people start to judge him, they could
be making a mistake.
"I was discussing with senior person and we agreed that we
need to set out a committee to deal with the Whistel Blower
anf Freedom of Information Bills and I'm sure that within
the next couple of months, we should have the Freedom of
Information Act, and then move on to review the Disability
Act".
Haruna Iddrisu assured that President Mills' administration
will tackle the issue of a clean Ghana, adding that Ghanains
should not feel that the president has forgotten as sme
process has been ongoing with organisations in the field. He
said the committee on Local Government have met and that in
a few days time, there would be a clean Ghana.
