Tell
positive stories about Ghana - MP
Sokode-Etoe, Jan 13, Ghanadot/GNA -
Captain George Nfodjo (Rtd), Member of Parliament (MP)
for Ho Central on Monday urged foreign students visiting
Ghana to tell their compatriots about the positive
things they saw and experienced in Ghana.
Captain Nfodjo made the call at a durbar of the Chiefs
and people of Sokode Traditional Area in honour of a
delegation of students and staff of Elon University of
North Carolina, USA.
He said the warmth and hospitality of Ghanaians, efforts
at development, democratic governance, diverse culture
and many positive things were worth talking about in the
USA and Europe, where only negative stories about Africa
made news headlines.
The visit, an annual affair initiated by Captain Nfodjo
eight years ago, has seen the university supporting
formal education and agricultural activities in the
Sokode Traditional Area.
This year’s delegation led by Professor Brian Digre, Co-ordinator
of International Studies Major, has presented components
of eight groundnut shelling machines to groundnut
farmers at Sokode-Ando.
It also presented a cheque for US$100.00 in support of
kindergarten education, GH¢1000.00 towards Junior High
School education, GH¢500.00 in support of students at Ho
Polytechnic from the Sokode Traditional Area and a
Lap-top Computer and education materials.
Togbe Fia Koku III, Paramount Chief of the Sokode
Traditional Area said the relationship between Elon
University and the traditional area had resulted in
tremendous improvements in formal education and income
generating activities.
