Accra, Aug 2, Ghanadot - A
container packed with about 400,000 dollars medical
suppliers was last Wednesday July 29, shipped from Denver
Colorado, USA to Ghana for
distribution to seven hospitals in the country.
The container, sponsored by Newmont Mining Company in Ghana
was the first of five such supplies being raised by Project
Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment (CURE), a
Denver-based organisation. Every year, CURE collects and
sends 50 million worth of medical supplies to hospitals in
about 40 countries.
Before shipping the container, the First Lady, Mrs Naadu
Mills and a delegation of health ministry officials
inspected the CURE's warehouse in the USA where volunteers
were sorting, labeling and packing donated supplies.
Funds for the project are raised annually at First Ladies
luncheon, sponsored by Miller Coors.
Mrs Naadu Mills who was at the luncheon last Thursday said
the donated medical items would surely save lives.
She said, improving maternal and child health
was part of a strategy to transform Ghana into a
middle-income country.
Mrs Naadu Mills declared the
preparedness of government to properly maintain the donated
items so as to serve its purpose.
