President Mills tells Zongo community, "Be patient"
By Awudu Salami Sule, Ghanadot

Accra, July 30, Ghanadot - President Mills has started his tour of the Brong Ahafo Region today has called on the Zongo community in the area to exercise patience as government tries to deliver on its mandate.

The President visited the Zongo chiefs in Sunyani to thank them for voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and he urged them to hope for better days ahead.

Pressure has been mounted on government from the Zongo communities where the ruling party enjoys massive support to fulfill its electoral promises and some political says the appeal by the President was timely.

The President is expected to address a durbar of the chiefs and people of Dormaa Ahenkro in Brong Ahafoon on Friday July 31, and reports say the expectation of the people is high.

Local journalists in the area say farmers expect president Mills to address issues of access to poultry feed and marketing opportunities for the people who are predominantly farmers.

After addressing the durbar of chiefs, the President will visit Tain before ending the tour in Techiman also in the Brong Ahafo Region.

At Tain, a tough dispute over land ownership is said to be raging there as members of the Teteli royal family of Banda are said to be threatening to disrupt the President’s visit if they are not invited to partake in the ceremony to welcome the president.

The family said they are already peeved over the ruling government’s failure to recongnise them in negotiations towards relocating the people in the area to make way for the construction of the Bui hydroelectric dam.

They allegeg that, while the erstwhile Kufuor government engaged them (Teteli family) in resettlement discussions, the current government has completely ignored them.

Sorces close to the presidency say the President has received petition from the Teteli family and he would present a uniting speech.
