Accra, July 22, Ghanadot - The
Minister for Trade and Industries, Ms Hannah Teteh has said
that the Presidential Special Initiative (PSI) launched by
the previous government has not been canceled.
She said the ministry was assessing the programme to see how
to add value to the products to ensure their viability.
The erstwhile Kuffour administration launched the PSI on
cassava, garments, palm oil and guinea fowl to encourage
district based industrialisation and provide existing
markets for those involve in the initiative.
However, when the National Democratic Congress took over
power at the beginning of this year, the PSI was removed
from the ministry's portfolio.
Taking her turn at the weekly meet the press series in
Accra, Ms Tetteh explained that most of the projects were
private initiatives with technical assistance from the
government and would require reassessment.
Citing the PSI on palm oil, the minister said, all the
nurseries were privately owned and the government
contributed with technical assistance to the farmers.
"We are now looking at how to transform these into value
added products so that the country can benefit more from
this", she stated.
