Nylander calls for early CPP executive election
By Awudu Salami Sule, Ghanadot
Accra, July 15, Ghanadot - Under
the constitution of the Convention People's Party (CPP),
both national executives and Presidential candidate are
elected on the same day, usually a year before national
elections.
This according to the party chairman, Mr Ladi Nylander, did
not allow national executives enough time to put in place
the needed party structures for effective campaign
activities.
He has however promised to change the status-quo and said,
he is in consultation with the leadership of the party to
shorten the tenure of office of current executives in order
to pave the way for an early election.
This he explained would allow the new executives enough time
to build effective party structures so that by the time the
flagbearer is elected in December 2011, the work of the
party would have become much easier towards success in the
2012 elections.
In an interview with section of the media in Accra today, Mr
Nylander explained that the idea was that, the party's
election must be done at separate times where the executives
would be elected before the flagbearer.
"This is goog for efficiency and sound administrative
purposes", he said.
He also revealed that, all aspiring flagbearers must be
requested to sign an undertaking to support any of the
candidates who emerged victorious.
"I will like to leave a legacy where the CPP chairman and
executives will have enough powers to inject discipline
which really is lacking in the party", he promised.
