By Abdul Salam Sule, Ghanadot

Accra, June 4, Ghanadot - The Ghana Printers and Paper Converters Association says, the local printing industry will provide a fully guaranteed security if they are given the contract of printing phone cards by the various mobile phone companies.

Reacting to concerns about the security and capacity raised by telecommunication companies following a proposal by President Mills that phone cards should be printed locally, Mr James Appiah-Breko, the president of the association said security could be vouched for.

"We have a track record in providing impeccable security processes. This will also be increased to meet the phone companies standard", he assured.

The president said, some of their members had been able to installed adequate security measures and have been able to handle sophisticated security features and documents in different products.

He assures that, members of the Printers association have installed state of the art equipment and they are ready for sophisticated printing works.

"Companies like Innolink, Buck Press and Check Point Security Limited are printing WAEC examination questions, ballot papers and cheque books and they always provide 100 per cent security", he revealed.

Mr Appiah Berko said, if phone cards are printed locally, it would create more jobs for Ghanaians and help improve upon the socio-economic development of the country.

He however called on the government to address the issue of pre-production taxes on inputs, saying once that was dealt with, local prices would be competitive to foreign prices.
