P. C. Appiah Ofori to be suspended by Minority in Parliament?
Abdul Salam Sule, Ghanadot

March 3, Ghanadot - Information available to Ghanadot indicates that, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Odoben-Brakwa in the Central Region, Hon P. C. Appiah Ofori would be suspended by the leaders of the minority group in Parliament.

The suspension, according to our source in the minroty caucus of Parliament, is necessitated by what they describe as a betrayal of trust by the honorable member who is famous for his crusade against corruption.

Our investigations revealed that, when the issue of whether Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni was eligible to occupy the position as a Minister of State at the Foreign Affairs Ministry was raised, Hon Appiah Ofori voted in favour of Mohammed Mumuni, even though the minority group had planned to vote against him.

The minority before the voting had argued that, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni had corruption charges leveled against him by the Auditor General and the case is pending at the court, though Alhaji Mumuni was the plaintiff.

They therefore called for suspension of his appointment as a Minister of Foreign Affairs until the court had ruled on the case. But the majority went ahead to vet and approve him.

However, the ruling by the court had found Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni guilty and the minority now feels vindicated.

A source from the minority caucus has told Ghanadot that, since Hon Appiah Ofori supported the majority in determining the fate of Mohammed Mumuni, he would be suspended now that the minority had been vindicated.

When contacted however, Hon PC Appiah Ofori called the bluff of the minority in Parliament.

He revealed that, he has always voted on issues in Parliament and he does not vote on party lines.

He said, when the issue of Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni came up, the court at that time had not found him guilty and it was wrong for any person or group to do that.

According to him the minority had no right to apply sanctions on him for not supporting them and he had every right as a parliamentarian to always decide on which side to support during a debate in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni who had described the ruling by the court as premature has vowed to appeal before the case at the court of Appeal.
