Accra, Feb 25, Ghanadot - Barclays
Bank Ghana has donated 20,000 pounds sterling for the
provision of Information Communication Technology (ICT)
education in two deprived schools, namely Old Lashibi TMA 1
and 2 schools in the Greater Accra Region.
A total of four hundred and twenty (420) primary school
pupils would benefit from the programme.
The programme would be implemented by C&J, a community based
non-governmental organisation in collaboration with the
Ghana Education Service.
The support by the Bank forms part of its social corporate
responsibilities.
The Managing Director of Barclays Bank Ghana, Mr Benjamin
Debrah said, the donation is in line with the bank's
"Banking for Brighter Futures" pillar under the bank's
community investment progamme.
The other two pillars of the community investment programme
are "Looking after local comminities and Charity begins at
home".
According to Mr Benjamin, Barclays Bank is committed to
supporting the government to develop the country especially
deprived comminities, through the provision of financial
support and material.
"We have supported communities in which we have live and
work for ninety two years in education, health and
entrepreneurial development and we are more challenged to
increase our efforts in the coming years especially in
education", he emphasised.
The C&J ICT project is designed to provide ICT education in
government approved public schools.
Though ICT education forms part of the school curriculum of
public schools, lack of facilities has made it difficult for
the subject to be thought efficiently.
That is why Barcklays Bank Ghana is supporting the Ministry
of Education to make ICT education accessible to
disadvantaged schools.
