NPP

Press Statement

June 28, 2012

NDC SHOULD STOP THE BLAME GAME AND FIX THE SICK ECONOMY

Over the past week, all kinds of NDC propagandists and apologists led by the NDC General Secretary have shouted themselves hoarse blaming the NPP, as usual, for fomenting the rumours about the death of President Mills

The presidential candidate of the NPP, especially, came in for attacks against his sincerity and integrity for the "crime" of wishing President Mills well. The National Chairman of the NPP was directly attacked for originating text messages.

Now the cat is out of the bag. No less a person than the NDC National Chairman, Dr. Kwabena Adjei has finally confirmed the source and origin of the rumours/stories on President Mills' health.

Dr. Kwabena Adjei has categorically identified the source of the rumours as “coming from within our own ranks and from the highest echelons of our ranks".

What will the NDC propagandists and apologists say now? This strategy of the NDC, to blame the NPP for their mishaps arising from their own divisions and incompetence, is a sad commentary on governance in Ghana today.

The NPP has been variously blamed for earthquake rumours/hoax, shortage of fuel, power cuts, kerosene shortages, the Cedi’s fall, the Woyome payout, the Nana Konadu challenge, the June 4 celebration at Aflao, woes at the NDC primaries, lecturers strike, doctors strike, Volta Youth Network, Tobgega Gabusu and even the internal rivalries in the NDC communication team.

Now that we have been assured of the President’s health, we urge him to tackle with new vigour, the health of the Ghanaian economy, especially the rapid fall in the value of the Cedi, the ever rising cost of living, the falling standards of basic education, the suspension of the free maternal care programme, the chronic youth unemployment, the poor state of public services and the general hopelessness and despondency afflicting Ghanaians.

All that government has offered them so far is to blame the opposition. Ghanaians deserve far better than this.

The NPP is comforted by the belief that Ghanaians see through this lazy governance by propaganda and blame game and would throw out the NDC government come December 2012.

It is a salutary lesson to all of us, that even in the NDC, there is so much disappointment in the government of President Mills that they wish him dead.

Nana Akomea
Communications Director

Corruption is so prevalent in our political culture that there are only a few good politicians, and even they are endangered species. One needs to take a cursory glance at our many national ills and will realize how incompetent our leaders are.
