Governor of Kano State pays courtesy call on
Northern Regional Minister

The Governor of Kano State in Nigeria, Malam Ibrahim Shekaru,
has assured Ghanaians that the long-standing relations
between Ghana and Nigeria will continue.
The governor, who was speaking during a courtesy call on the
Northern regional Minister, Stephen Sumani Nayina in Tamale,
said his state, is the largest in Nigeria, with a population
of more than 10 million people.
According to him, many people from Nigeria, especially Kano
State move to many places throughout Africa.
He said Kano State and the Northern Region have common
characteristics in terms of agriculture and the Islamic
religion.
The Northern Regional Minister, Stephen Nayina said the
people of Kano State and the Northern Region have a
long-standing relationship which can be traced to the 13th
century, when people from Kano moved to the region to engage
in trading activities and religious duties.
He noted that apart from establishing Islamic schools in the
Northern Region, the people also adopted their culture.
Mr. Nayina said their presence in the region has also
influenced the language of the people, adding that a person
is always comfortable in the region, if he or she can speak
Hausa.
