Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh, Ghanadot
Accra, May 5, Ghanadot - The Chief
Executive Officer (C.E.O) of Unilever Ghana, Mr. Charles Cofie
has called on corporate Ghana not to cut their advertising
budgets in the face of the current global economic meltdown.
He noted that slashing advertising budgets at
this time would have some effects on the goods and services of
the organizations.
Mr. Cofie who is also the current Marketing
personality of the Year, made the call at the launch of
the 20th Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMAG) Awards
2008 in Accra.
According to him, “this is a time for visionary leadership”
stressing that “you should not let the credit crunch spoil your
business plans”.
Launching the awards, the National President of CIMAG, Mrs.
Josephine Okuto announced that the theme for this year’s awards
would be “The Global Economic Downturn-A case for Marketing
Metrics”.
“This year’s awards programme is therefore posed to be catalyst
in provoking fruitful discussions and finding solutions. It is
for these laudable reasons that we are inviting all of you to
join us build a strong nation that withstands the current
economic turmoil”, she added.
The awards ceremony has been slated for June 27, 2009 at the
Banquet Hall of the State House, while the number of categories
has been increased from 26 to 28.
These include Marketing Practitioner and Medical Facility of the
year, Marketing Man of the year, Marketing Woman of the year,
product of the year, and indigenous facility of the year.
Mrs. Okutu indicated that the Awards selection committee and
their partners from marketing research institutions would be
working closely with the Governing Council of CIMAG, Association
of Ghana Industries, Ministry of Trade and Industry, among
others to select the best individuals, institutions and
companies for the awards.
Additionally, the general public is also invited to make their
own nominations for each award category using the criteria,
while copies of the nomination forms would be available in the
daily newspapers, and could be also be obtained from the
Secretariat of the CIMAG.
The committee would require that members of the public who want
to make nominations present a brief write-up on the
justification of the nominee(s).
Whilst all companies who may be nominating themselves should
send the committee comprehensive information about the
performance of their organizations.
The work of the Awards Selection Committee and the marketing
research institutions would be to investigate carefully the
inputs of all nominations and to provide a short list for the
Governing Council of CIMAG to confirm the final winners.
The President therefore urged the selection committee and the
research institutions to be resolute, impartial and exercise a
high sense of fairness in the performance of their duties giving
them, adding this would give the awards the due credibility it
deserves from the public.
Furthermore, “in view of the fact that the event has achieved
international recognition and the fact that the whole nation
stands to gain from it, we do implore organizations, individuals
and corporate bodies to continue to sponsor the various aspects
of the events in the areas of advertising, preparation of
brochures and the organization of the awards night itself. No
contribution will be too small or too big and such contributions
will surely be used for the purpose for which they are
contributed.”, Mrs. Okuto assured.
The Chairperson of the Awards Planning Committee, Mrs. Shola
Safo-Duodu used the occasion to announce the sponsorship
categories.
These she mentioned platinum, gold, silver, bronze, and other
