Ghana Telecom cuts 850 jobs
Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh, Ghanadot

Accra, March 23, Ghanadot - Credible and authentic information reaching Ghanadot shows that Ghana Telecom (GT), one of the leading telecommunications companies in Ghana, has announced that about 850 jobs, out of a total workforce of 4,000 are to be made redundant.

This is under a customized voluntary Transition Support Programme, where staff of the company would take advantage of the programme to disengage their services.

The programme has been developed to help them to manage the change effectively and efficiently as they seek different jobs after they leave the company.

Last August, the British Telecom giant, Vodafone Plc completed the acquisition of a 70% stake in state-owned fixed and mobile operator, the GT for a pittance of $900million on a debt-free, cash-free basis.

The Ghanaian Parliament approved the sale, despite criticism from the then opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party which believed that the shares are undervalued and said the deal is not in the national interest.
