expansion drive

Accra, March 4, Ghanadot - Ghana’s new free-TV channel
Viasat1, a subsidiary of Modern Times Group (MTG) AB announced that the company
had set up transmitter sites in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central and the
Western Regions to cover the commercially most important and densely areas of
the country.
All these transmitter sites had been turned on. The Greater Accra Region site
would be significantly vamped up in terms of power in order to increase picture
and sound quality and coverage.
The company would also set up a transmitter site in the Northern Region to cover
the Northern part of the country.
The Chief Executive Officer of Free-TV Emerging Markets Modern Times Group AB,
Madam Laurence Miall-d’Aout made these known at a press conference in Accra .
She added that ‘We have invested heavily in technical infrastructure. Both our
play-out facilities and transmitter sites are built using state of the art
equipment. We strongly believe our investments will enable us to provide good
picture and sound quality throughout our footprint.’
The company has embarked on comprehensive marketing strategies, especially in
the capital city, Accra as it embossed the company’s logo on various walls,
billboards, leaflets and T-shirts.
By doing this it would drive viewers to the channel and deliver increased return
on investment for their advertisers. The company believed its way of doing
business would resonate with the expectations the advertisers reposed in them.
Madam Laurence was quick to add that Viasat1 is a client focused organization
and would deliver the best entertainment to viewers and first class service to
advertisers.
She intimated that the company is bringing top quality programming, the best of
world renowned series and block buster movies into the Ghanaian television
industry to provide quality programmes to the general public.
Also, the staff in Accra had support from the company’s central acquisitions
department, which had longstanding relations with the Hollywood studios.
On local content TV programmes, the CEO disclosed that the company had entered
into agreements with some of the biggest African content owners and secured the
best African movies, series and current affairs programmes and pledged that the
company will continuously improve its programming line-up to ensure best in
class services.
In the light of this, Viasat1 hopes to develop good relationships with
newspapers, magazines and radio stations in Ghana to proffer TV viewers with
what they actual want; more and better programme information.
According to her ‘since Viasat1 launched in December 12, 2008, we are very
pleased with the response so far and we are now looking at continuing building a
strong preference with both viewers and advertisers and to deliver on our brand
promise-YourNo.1 Entertainer.’
