Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh, Ghanadot

Accra, Feb 26, Ghanadot - President Atta Mills has announced that the late MP for Jirapa, Edward Kojo Salia will be given a state burial.

This was after the Majority Leader of Parliament, Alban Bagbin made the request to the President which was jointly supported by both the majority and the minority and the speaker of Parliament.

President Mills announced the state burial for the late MP when a family delegation called on the president to officially announce his death and funeral arrangements to the president.

President Mills said Mr. Salia had served his country very well and the only thing to do for him now is to give him a befitting burial. He said it is a pity that Mr. Salia did not live long to witness the victory by the NDC. President Mills said a nation that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for, and it is therefore important that the late MP’s life is celebrated.

The family spokesperson Professor Bruce Banoeng Yakubu said the death of Mr. Edward Salia came as a shock to the family. He said Mr. Salia had not been well for sometime, but has been working hard for the country.

He said Mr. Salia was a determined person whose diligence is a hallmark of his achievement the funeral of the late MP will take place on the 20th and the 21st of next month at Chepuri in Yirapa. Among the delegation was the Jirapa Naa Ansule who is also the President of that Jirapa Traditional council and the widow of Mr. Salia, Mrs. Mary Assumta Salia.
