Interpol smokes out German, Congolese

Accra, Jan 22, Ghanadot - Two alleged fugitives, Jacobson
Dieter, 53, a German, and Gustuv Konongo, a Congolese, have
been arrested in separate hotels in Accra by the
International Police Organisation, Deportation and
Extradition Unit (IDEU) of the Ghana Police Service.
Tthe Deputy Director of the IDEU, Deputy Superintendent of
Police (DSP) Peter Abilla, said Dieter who was arrested in
Germany for illicit drug related offences and unlawfully
possessing firearms, was granted bail to assist in
investigations but absconded to Ghana and has been in the
country since last year.
DSP Abilla noted that though the suspect has a family in
Ghana, police investigation revealed that he had no work
permit. In the case of Konongo, DSP Abilla said the suspect
allegedly defrauded the Consulate of Congo in Benin and
absconded to Ghana.
He said information from INTERPOL Germany and Congo
respectively led to the arrest of the two who are assisting
the police in their investigations, adding that after which
they will be repatriated to their respective countries to
face prosecution.
DSP Abilla said the police were determined to fight
organized crime and cautioned foreigners not to commit
crimes in their countries and abscond to Ghana.
