Accra, Oct 2, Ghanadot -
Government would have to raise at least US $50 million
dollars additional funds to complete the Golden Jubilee
House; the new seat of government.
The edifice built by the Former President John Agyekum
Kufuor was to “create a credible spiritual and psychological
centre to inspire the self-confidence and the clear identity
of the national persona..”
From the initial estimation of the project, the Indian
Government made available $30 million as grant, while the
Government of Ghana was to provide a counterpart funding of
$6.9 million.
When the NDC took over the administration of the country in
January 2009, a member of the Executive Asset Declaration
Committee of the Government Transitional Team, Nana Ato
Dadzie disclosed that an additional $12 million dollars was
required to fully complete the Golden Jubilee House.
But in an interview on Citi FM, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said
although a greater portion of the building has been
completed, there are some aspects left which would require
at least fifty million dollars to complete.
According to him, an amount of $35 million would be needed
to construct a security post behind the premises of the
Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. .
“We would need some extra thirty five million for a security
post. Negotiations are underway with GBC who are original
owners of the land.”
“$15 Million would be used for landscaping while $ 2 million
dollars would be used as a resource fund to be paid to the
director of the project”.
