EC: There must
be more electoral areas in the country
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot
Accra, July 21, Ghanadot - The
Acting Public Relations Director of the Electoral Commission
(EC), Mr. Christian Owusu Pari has stated that the EC will
soon demarcate more Electoral areas after the 2010
Population and Housing Census.
To him, the commission has received numerous petitions from
all over the country to demarcate current electoral areas to
meet the increase in population.
Speaking on Citi FM, Mr. Pari said, as much as the EC will
like to re-demarcate the current electoral areas, much will
be required on the outcome of the 2010 Population Census and
find out if the budgetary allocations will be enough to
support re-demarcation.
The Acting Public Relation Director said even though there
has been the need for the additional electoral areas and
re-demarcation of current areas, the EC cannot take the
decision on its own since it will take Government's
assistance for its full completion.
When asked if the EC has finally settled on a date for the
Akwatia elections, Mr.Pari said, the EC is yet to come out
with a date for the re-run of the elections but was
optimistic that by the end of this week, a final decision
and time table will be known.
