Accra, July 20, Ghanadot - Mr.
Kwame Alorvi, president of the National Association of
Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has laid blame on the Northern
Regional Chairman of the association of lying about plans of
the association to go on a strike.
According to him, NAGRAT had not even met to take such a
decision and accused Lawson Afedo of hiding an ulterior
motive because “national office is not aware of the reasons
for the strike”.
The Northern Regional Chairman of the National Association
of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Mr. Lordson Afedo hinted that
teachers and education sector workers would strike if by
Monday 20th July, 2009 government fails to reverse the
slashing of allowances; as per Ghana Education Service
letter dated 6th May, 2009 signed by the Director-General of
the GES.
But Mr. Alorvi said that statement from the Northern
Regional Chairman was just to seek attention from the public
for mischievous reasons.
“He has not even briefed me the president about why they
want to go on a strike.” He said.
In an interview with Joy FM, the president of NAGRAT said,
there was no reason for Mr. Afedo to issue a threat of
strike since he had briefed Mr. Afedo of the outcome of a
meeting with the Education Minister who promised to resolve
all their complaints.
But Mr. Afedu on the other hand, expressed surprise at the
attitude of the NAGRAT President since Mr. Alorvi knew of
his intention to call a press conference.
