Today’s rains has caused damage in the capital

Accra, July 8, Ghanadot - This
morning’s rainfall has damaged hundreds of properties and
even misplaced people. In some parts of Accra where Ghanadot
visited, areas such as Mataheko, South Odorkor, Dansoman
SSNIT Flat and surrounding suburbs have experienced severe
floods.
At the time of our visit, people could not get out from
their rooms as the downpour has entered into their rooms and
surroundings.
Children could be seen at the back of their parents crossing
the flood to safer places. The
situation was disturbing as business and schools in most
areas are forced to send workers and
children home because the rains were entering most
the class rooms.
The President, John Evans Atta Mills, has charged the Accra
Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to be firm on the demolition of
unauthorised buildings and structures on watercourses.
The exercise is expected to decongest the waterways to
ensure free flow of rain water and to avoid floods in
future.
President Mills has been touring some parts of the capital,
Accra on Wednesday, that were heavily affected by the
persistent flooding in the city to assess the extent of
damage.
The inspection took him to First Light near Kaneshie,
Sakaman, Chaba and other surrounding area.
