Finding Ya Na's killers is not enough-Pratt
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot
Accra, Feb 22, Ghanadot - The Managing editor for the
Insight Newspaper, Mr Kwesi Pratt Jr. has stated that
President Mills initiative to probe into finding the killers of Ya Na Yakubu
Andani II and his followers, and arresting them would not
solve the problem but finding the causes of the murder as well as retrieving
ammunitions from civilian was the way to go.
Mr. Pratt said he was not against the President’s
decision to arrest the killers, but he thought
arresting and prosecuting the killers without finding the actual reason why they
decided to kill the Ya Na would not address the issue
as the problem would still remain.
The Managing editor of the Insight added that if the President really wanted
to bring justice to the conflicts in the Northern
Region, then effort should not be based on partisan politics.
He noted that, there were situations where people who
were supposed to be punished
for going contrary to the law were freed by those who
were mandated to do so due to their political affiliation
and that he said had left the laws of the
country weak.
President John Evans Atta Mills on Thursday broached the very rancorous issue of
the Dagbon killings of Ya Na Yakubu Andani II and forty of his elders,
and the torture-to-death of politician Issa Mobila.
According to President Mills, his administration would
bring to closure, the lingering issue of justice in the case of the death of Ya
Na and his followers, Issa Mobila and other outstanding cases.
